17 Sri Lankans Deported from Israel

Seventeen Sri Lankan nationals in Israel are being deported for violating their employment agreements, according to Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Israel, Nimal Bandara.

The deportees had entered Israel on agricultural work visas but were caught working in bakeries after leaving their designated workplaces. Israeli authorities detained the individuals during inspections, as the country closely monitors foreign labor practices to ensure compliance.

Ambassador Bandara emphasized that Israel strictly prohibits foreign workers from switching to employment categories not specified in their original visa agreements. The Israeli government has reiterated that there are no legal provisions for such visa category changes after entry.

In a similar incident, a Sri Lankan woman who arrived in Israel for caregiving work a year ago was deported for breaching her employment conditions. Previously, another Sri Lankan national faced deportation following allegations of theft.

The Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel has urged workers to adhere to their contractual obligations to avoid such situations and maintain good relations between the two countries. (NewsWire)
