A man who had murdered his girlfriend by assaulting her with a rock has been apprehended by the Payagala Police today.
According to the Police, the deceased is a 19-year-old girl from the Pahalagoda area in Payagala.
Interrogation of the suspect has revealed that an argument had ensued between the couple who had visited the beach in the Dhiyalagoda area in Payagala, during which he had hit her on the head with a rock.
The Police have found the rock used in the attack at the site of the incident, while further investigations have revealed that the young couple has been constantly quarrelling for a long time due to this relationship.
Following the attack, the suspect had informed a friend in this regard, after which they had transported the victim in an ambulance to the Kalutara Nagoda Hospital.
However, the victim had died while receiving treatment at the hospital this morning.
The arrested suspect is an 18-year-old resident of the Maggona area in Payagala. He is due to be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate’s Court.
