The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided yesterday (15) to suspend the position of Mr. Chandika Hathurusingha, who worked as Bangladesh cricket coach.
BCB President Faruque Ahmed has stated this in a statement, and they have taken this decision on the basis of an allegation of assaulting a player during the 2023 ODI Cricket World Cup.
Accordingly, Mr. Hathurusingha’s position will be banned for the next 48 hours and then he will be removed from his position with immediate effect.
Accordingly, Phil Simmons will take over the vacant Bangladesh head coach position and will serve as Bangladesh’s interim coach until the 2025 Champions Trophy.
In addition to the assault charge, the decision was also made by Hathurusingha taking more leave than was stated in his contract, the BCB chairman said.
Mr. Hathurusingha, who took over as the Bangladesh coach for the second time in 2023, was receiving somewhat mixed responses regarding the performance of Bangladesh during this period.
