The government intends to take up the matter related to repealing the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) once the new Parliament is formed, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Vijitha Herath said.Â
Addressing the weekly post-Cabinet media briefing held today, Minister Herath said that at present, no discussions have taken place on repealing the PTA and it will continue to operate as it is.
Pointing out that currently the Parliament has been dissolved, the minister said that any changes to the PTA could only be done by proposing amendments and it being approved in Parliament.Â
The opinion that the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) should be amended has been prevalent for a long time now, he said.
The Cabinet Spokesman noted that the government will take this up for discussion once the new Parliament session commences.
