Indian couple posts garden pics on FB, ends up in jail after detection

A Bengaluru couple was arrested for growing ganja (weed) in flower pots on their balcony after they posted pictures of their plants on Facebook, The Indian Express reported.

The couple, K. Sagar Gurung (37) and Urmila Kumari (38), originally from Sikkim, run a fast-food joint in MSR Nagar.

How the police got involved

The couple had planted ganja among their decorative plants on the balcony. Urmila posted photos and videos on Facebook showcasing the plants, including the ganja. A follower of hers noticed the weed and alerted the police, leading to an investigation.

Caught just in time

When the police arrived at the scene, Urmila was warned by a relative and quickly removed the plants from the pots, throwing them in a dustbin. However, the police found traces of the ganja plants, with some leaves still in the pots.

54 grams of ganja seized

The couple admitted to growing the ganja with the intention of selling it for profit. The police recovered 54 grams of ganja and seized their mobile phones to check if they were involved in any further drug distribution. Initially, Urmila denied posting the photos, but the police later confirmed the posts from October 18.

Released on bail

After their arrest, the couple was released on station bail. A case has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. (Indian Express)
