Ferguson left the field due to a leg injury during the second T20 match against Sri Lanka last Sunday, and he had already managed to take 3 wickets in two overs.
Ferguson has been replaced by Adam Milne in the New Zealand ODI squad, and Ferguson will return to New Zealand to assess the condition of his injury.
