The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has seized a stock of imported rice from India with doctored dates of manufacture and expiry.
The stock of 17.925 kilos of rice was seized by the CAA during a raid on a warehouse in Colombo 14.
The stock of rice was intended to be released to the local market during the upcoming festive season.
Investigations have revealed that the rice contained an expiration date of 2022, but the warehouse owner had changed the date to 2024, repacked the rice using new labels and stored them in the warehouse.
The CAA had seized 717 packets of 20 kilos of rice with the doctored manufacture and expiry dates, while it is set to initiate legal action against those responsible. (Islandnews)
