Hazara Wijeratne and Hasini Ambalangoda set records by winning the women’s doubles title at the Botswana International Badminton Championship.

Hazara Wijeratne and Hasini Ambalangoda set records by winning the women’s doubles title at the Botswana International Badminton Championship.

This is the first time that Sri Lankan players have won the doubles badminton title in a tournament organized by the World Badminton Federation.

In the women’s doubles final, Hazara and Hasini achieved the historic victory by defeating South Africa’s Amy Ackerman and Deirdre Lawrence, ranked 72nd in the World Badminton Federation, 21-18, 22-20.

This victory was recorded in the history as the most victory achieved by two Sri Lankan female players in the International Badminton Tournament.

Hazara Wijeratne and Hasini Ambalangotake got the chance to participate in this tournament by winning the silver medal in the women’s doubles event of the International Badminton Championship held in Zambia recently.

Meanwhile, after the Botswana International Badminton Championship series, Hazara and Hasini will participate in the South African International Badminton Championship which will be held from the 28th of this month to the 1st of December.
