Three individuals including two youths were killed in separate road accidents in the last 24 hours, Police said.
An elderly man who had been involved in a motor accident on the Chilaw-Colombo road had died after Police responded to the scene and admitted the victim to the Chilaw Hospital.
The victim whose identity remains unknown is believed to be aged between 65 to 70.
The body is currently at the Chilaw Hospital morgue, and the Wennappuwa Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
A 23-year-old man from Eppawela died after his lorry collided with another vehicle on the Negombo-Colombo road in Peliyagoda.
The youth succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.
The other motorist involved in the collision has been arrested, and Peliyagoda Police are conducting further investigations.
In a separate incident, a 17-year-old youth lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into an electricity pole in Vadukkoddai.
Both the motorcyclist and his pillion rider sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the Moolai Cooperative Hospital. Later the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries, while the pillion rider was transferred to Jaffna Hospital for further treatment. (Islandnews)
