The Sri Lanka Customs is gearing to launch several new digital applications in order to streamline its processes to be more transparent and efficient.
These new digital applications will include a cargo tracking application, a motor vehicle import verification system and an electronic bidding (e-bidding) platform, Customs Spokesman Seevali Arukgoda speaking to the media said on Thursday (5). He said that these new digital applications are being introduced to make the Customs related processes more accessible and transparent that will facilitate the public with more services.
Arukgoda elaborated on the importance of the upcoming motor vehicle import verification system while addressing the issues in the import and registration of vehicles and said that people might be doubtful about the legal status of a vehicle when purchasing one which makes them compelled to get the vehicle verified and that there are no easy methods to get it done presently. He said that through this new digital motor vehicle verification system a person can provide the chassis number of the vehicle and get it verified on its importation legality.
The Customs spokesman also said that the Customs will be introducing an electronic bidding (e-bidding) system to improve the present bidding process which will be in operation from January 2025 and said that this new improved system will make bidding more efficient, safe, transparent and free from any political influence where anybody from anywhere in the world can bid.The upcoming ‘CusDec Tracking System’ which is a cargo tracking digital application will allow traders and other stakeholders to track cargo clearance process from anywhere in the world, Arukgoda added.
