The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has declared that it will carry out special inspections at rice mills in the Polonnaruwa region today (08). A spokesperson stated that the inspections aim to gather detailed information on daily rice production, current stock levels, and the volume of rice distributed to the market.
The CAA further noted that, as per the directives of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, it will expand these efforts to systematically collect data from all rice mills moving forward.
This development follows a meeting with rice traders on December 7, during which the President introduced new maximum retail and wholesale price limits for various rice categories.
President Dissanayake also announced that, beginning today, CAA officers will be deployed to monitor operations at rice mills and enforce the law strictly against mill owners who violate the mandated pricing regulations.
