The number of coconuts sold daily through Sathosa outlets will be increased to 200,000 starting tomorrow (Dec 9) the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development said.
Coconuts sourced from government-owned plantations will be sold at Rs. 130 each at Sathosa outlets, particularly targeting urban areas, including Colombo.
Currently, Sathosa sells approximately 100,000 coconuts daily.
Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe said that disruptions in coconut production caused by recent heavy rains have now eased, adding that he is confident that shortages will soon be resolved. (Islandnews)
