The New Democratic Front (NDF) has formally nominated President’s Counsel Faiszer Musthapha to be appointed to Parliament through its National List, according to party sources.
While the Election Commission has not yet confirmed the nomination, Musthapha told Islandnews that he has been informed by the party of this decision.
Musthapha, a senior lawyer and politician previously served as the Minister of Sports and the Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government.
He also held key roles as Deputy Minister of Tourism and Deputy Minister of Environment during his earlier tenure in Parliament.
Musthapha was first elected to Parliament in 2004, representing the Kandy District. In 2015, he re-entered Parliament via the National List.
In the General Election, the New Democratic Front (NDF) which contested under the Gas Cylinder symbol secured three parliamentary seats and two National List seats.
In November, former minister Ravi Karunanayake’s name was submitted to the Election Commission as one of the two NDF’s national list member.
The NDF’s National List featured several notable names, including former Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and other experienced political leaders such as Ravi Karunanayake and Thalatha Athukorale. (Islandnews)
