The proposal to expedite the introduction of a digital driver’s licence to replace the current system has received Cabinet approval.
Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa told the media today the current system will prevail until the introduction of the new system, which is used the world over.
He further said that the new digital driving licence will align with modern technology and improve data exchange between institutions.
Minister Jayatissa added that this initiative will replace the current smart card-based licence system, which has been in use for nearly 15 years. (Islandnews)
