Iran Tourism Agencies and Air Transport Association Executive Vice President Dr. Mortenza Shabani visited Sri Lanka last week and met many stakeholders of the industry.
This visit was on the initiative of Sri Lanka Ambassador in Iran N.M. Shaheed. During the meeting with Chairman Sri Lanka Tourism Authority and Tourism Promotion Bureau Buddhika Hewawasam they discussed promoting tourism between the two countries. Dr. Shabani Has indicated Sri Lanka as the best holiday destination for Iranian tourists and said they were looking to promote Sri Lanka as a ‘New Tourism Destination’ for Iranian tourists.
President of the Chamber of Tourism Industry A.M. Jaufer requested Dr. Shabani to host the Iranian Travel Agency Annual Conference and Trade Fair in February 2025 in Sri Lanka. Dr. Shabani also met Financial Ministry Secretary and Treasury Secretary Mahinda Siriwardana and Director General of Board of Investment (BOI) Renuka Weerakoon and discussed the investment climate in Sri Lanka and potential investment opportunities available.
