VICTORY FOR ANC EDUCATION ON UN WORLD HUMAN RIGHTS DAY

The Capital Maharaja Group (CMG) held its third consecutive year of Inter University Human Rights Debates this year. This witnessed private and state universities from across Sri Lanka competing to win the title of CMG University Champions in English, Sinhala and Tamil.

The ANC Education Debating team, aptly named “Rhetoric Reign” was looking to retain its title as CMG English Language Debating Champions from 2023.

The team consisting of Mithiesh Shankar, Fazeena Hisham, Althaf Ajmal and Gayathri Ramachandran demonstrated relentless commitment, gumption and skill over the last 2 months, competing against 300 students and 20 universities over the last 2 months.

The CMG debating cycle culminated in the debating finals taking place on World Human Rights Day, 10th December. The event, in collaboration with the United Nations, was held at the Stein Studios, and witnessed an august gathering of individuals from the legal community, Senior Members of the UN in Sri Lanka, Diplomatic Heads and Consular Cultural Attaches.

ANC Education faced worthy opponents in University of Peradeniya. who were proposing the motion, “Cultural nuances should be integrated into Universal Human Rights”, with ANC Education opposing the motion.

Both teams demonstrated exemplary research, passion and powers of articulation. However, ANC Education were declared the winners, for, in the words of the judging panel “setting out their well researched arguments in style, whilst rebutting questions in quick succession”.

ANC Education not only fosters academic excellence, but also champions extra curricular activities of this nature, to produce graduates of the highest caliber.
