Sri Lanka attracted 68,648 tourist arrivals in the first 11 days of December 2024 and the country had 1,873,521 visitors from January to December 11.
From January 1, up to December 11 India had sent 378,451 tourists and the Russian Federation 177,359 while the United Kingdom 164,478, Germany 126,334 and China followed with 125,833.
In November, the country attracted 184,158 showing an increase of 21.56% over 2023 November which was 151,496.
With average daily arrivals increasing to around 6,500 per day, Sri Lanka is expected to touch pass the 2 million arrival mark for 2024. In 2023 Lanka’s total arrival stood at 1,487,303. India once again came up the top source destination overtaking Russia with 14,358 arrivals and averaging 21% from the total market. Russian Federation 10,707 – 15.6% was second followed by Germany 4,953 (7.2%), United Kingdom 4,896 – 7.1% and China 4,076- 5.9%.
Meanwhile revenue generated from the industry passed the USD 2,806.5 million mark from January to end November. This is an increase of 56% as against the corresponding period last year where the total was USD 1,798.7 million. (SS)
