Indictments were filed today (17) before the Colombo High Court against a biomedical engineer of the Health Ministry’s Biomedical Engineering Unit, accusing him of causing financial losses to the government through the purchase of 35 operating room lamps in 2015.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) filed the indictments before Colombo High Court Judge Navaratne Marasinghe.
Following submissions, the court ordered the accused to be released on two surety bails of Rs. 2.5 million each and a cash bail of Rs. 25,000.
The court also imposed a travel ban on the defendant until the conclusion of the case.
CIABOC filed the indictments alleging that the accused purchased 35 operating room lamps from a specific company between April 7, 2015, and July 15, 2016, causing financial loss to the government.
A total of 32 witnesses have been named, and 16 documents have been submitted as evidence in the case. (Islandnews)
