Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa has requested the government to conduct a probe if there is a complaint regarding the exams related to his law degree.
Addressing the Parliament today, MP Rajapaksa said that Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe had raised allegations in Parliament yesterday against the MP’s law qualification.
MP Rajapaksa said he would resign from his Parliamentary seat if Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe could prove that he had sat alone in an A/C room for his law exams.
Stating that he would resign if the allegation was proven, MP Rajapaksa said, however, if the minister fails to prove so, then he would have to resign from his ministerial portfolio.
The challenge was issued after MP Namal Rajapaksa raised concerns over Minister Samarasinghe’s statement in Parliament, in which the latter claimed he had received information on the MP receiving special treatment during his Law College final exam in 2010.
Addressing the Parliament in response to MP Rajapaksa, Minister Samarasinghe said that a probe will be conducted into the allegations of the MP’s law college exam, with the complainants, who are overseas, arriving in Sri Lanka soon to provide statements.Â
Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe further said that MP Rajapaksa can also provide his statements when the probe is launched. (Islandnews)
