Islandwide Special traffic operation from Monday : Violation Videos requested

The Police has announced plans to launch a nationwide special traffic operation starting tomorrow (23), focusing on passenger buses and other vehicles.

According to the announcement, this operation aims to minimize road accidents involving passenger buses and other vehicles, which have been increasing in recent days. Acting under the directives of the Acting Inspector General of Police, the operation is expected to continue until the end of the festive season.

During this period, the primary focus will be on inspecting public passenger buses. Authorities will specifically check whether drivers are operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol or other substances.

Additionally, measures will be taken against buses driven recklessly, at excessive speeds, violating road rules, or operating with unsuitable tires or other technical defects.

The operation will also include checks on other types of vehicles. Traffic officers will be deployed island-wide to conduct 24-hour surveillance during the operation.

The public can report unsafe or negligent driving, including violations involving buses and other vehicles, via the hotline numbers 119 and 1997. They can also contact the relevant area’s police station or the mobile numbers of designated traffic officers in their regions.

Furthermore, any video evidence of traffic violations or other offenses can be sent via WhatsApp to the provided contact numbers. The Police Media Division assured that legal actions would be taken based on the information received.
