Police have begun inspecting buses across Sri Lanka considering the rise in bus accidents and reports of drivers driving buses under the influence of alcohol.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Buddika Manatunga stated that 10 fatal road accidents have been reported, resulting in the deaths of 13 on Saturday (21).
Commenting further, he said, “A common factor in these accidents is that they have occurred mainly in urban areas. Additionally, out of the 13 deceased, four were pedestrians.”
Police urged the public to take necessary precautions to reduce accidents, as there is a noticeable increase in both vehicular traffic and pedestrian activity during the festive season.
