150,000 breathalyzer devices have been distributed to all police stations nationwide to apprehend drunk drivers, Mawbima newspaper reported.
According to Police Media Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police Buddika Manathunga a nationwide traffic operation was launched yesterday (Dec. 23) to inspect passenger transport buses and other vehicles.
Police said the operation aims to minimize accidents involving passenger buses and other vehicles, which have been increasing in recent days.
Traffic officers have been deployed across the country on 24-hour duty to carry out these inspections.
The police further stated that during this special operation, the public can report reckless, negligent, or law-violating driving of buses and other vehicles by contacting the hotline numbers 119 and 1997. (Islandnews)
