Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayathissa, clarified that no restrictions have been imposed on government members speaking to the media.
Responding to a journalist’s query about allegations that the Minister of Justice declined an interview, citing the need for party permission, Jayathissa said, “There is no ban on any of our MPs. They are free to express their opinions. However, I believe the process should be streamlined.”
He emphasized that a weekly Cabinet media briefing is held to communicate decisions, during which journalists are free to ask questions.
“We are following a procedure. I am here to communicate Cabinet decisions, while Ministers provide updates through their respective ministries, as they should,” Jayathissa explained. “There is no ban. If anything, it’s a matter of time constraints, not restrictions.” (Islandnews)
