The Chief Incumbent of Seruwila Mangala Rajamaha Viharaya, Venerable Aludeniye Subodhi Thero, won all five Gold Medals for the subjects of Archaeology at the 147th Convocation of the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka held at the Bandaranaike International Conference Hall.
The medals awarded were
Senarath Paranavitana Gold Medal for the most outstanding academic achievement in Epigraphy and Numismatics, Siran Deraniyagala Gold Medal for the most outstanding academic achievement in Pre and Proto History, Senake Bandaranayake Gold Medal for the most outstanding academic achievement in Environmental Archaeology, Sir Alexander Cunningham Gold Medal for the most outstanding academic achievement in Archaeological Research Thought and Lord Colin Renfrew Gold Medal for the most outstanding overall academic achievement in Archaeology. These prestigious Gold Medals of academic excellence were presented to the Venerable Thero by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva.
The Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology, University of Kelaniya awards the four original gold medals to the students who obtain the highest marks with an A+ grade in each subject, while the Lord Colin Renfrew Gold Medal is presented to the student who obtains A+ grades in all archaeology subjects and demonstrates the highest GPA. The Venerable has thus completed the postgraduate degree with a Distinction Pass, maintaining a maximum GPA of 4.0 and obtaining A+ grades in all subjects.
