The Sri Lanka Police state that 251 individuals have been arrested for driving under the influence during the past 24 hours under a special traffic operation.
Accordingly, legal action has been taken against a total of 8,747 drivers, including those driving under the influence, as part of this special operation.
This special traffic operation, initiated on the 23rd under the instructions of Acting Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya, aims to minimize road accidents during the festive season.
Meanwhile, the police report that no fatal road accidents were recorded in the country over the past 24 hours.
Considering recent road accidents involving passenger buses and other vehicles, this operation is being carried out continuously to reduce such incidents.
