The spillway of the Magul Pokuna reservoir in Welikanda, Polonnaruwa District, sustained significant damage yesterday (02), disrupting livelihoods, agricultural activities, and transportation in the region. The damage also rendered the Magul Pokuna-Kalingawewa road impassable, further impacting local communities.
Responding swiftly, troops from Security Forces – East and the 23 Infantry Division carried out extensive repairs, including placing sandbags and restoring the spillway. Their dedicated efforts ensured the safety of residents, restored the road, and enabled the resumption of normal daily life and transportation in the area.
