Lack of Test Cricket for Sri Lanka

The veteran batter Angelo Mathews has expressed his concerns over Sri Lanka’s Test matches schedule for the year 2025.

Taking to his social media handles, Mathews has tweeted “Absolutely shocking to hear that Sri Lanka is only playing 4 Test matches this entire year including the Aus tests this month @ICC.”

Mathews’ complaint paints a grim picture for the future of Test cricket for Sri Lanka. The island nation begins this year with a two-match Test series against Australia which will be happening in the months of January-February.

After a five-month drought, Sri Lanka will be playing a two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home. After that series, Sri Lanka will not play any Test matches until mid 2026 a long break that can disrupt team momentum and player development.
