The internal power struggles within the National Sports Body officials are not good for the sport and immediate steps should be taken to take the sport forward by finding quick solutions to all the problems, said Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage.
The Minister revealed this at the discussion between the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports officials and the Sri Lanka Cycling Federation at the Duncan White Auditorium of the Sports Ministry.
The discussion was attended by a group of senior officials of the Ministry of Sports, including the Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Eranga Gunasekara, the Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Aruna Bandara, Sports Director General Prof Rear Admiral Shemal Fernando and officials from 66 invited associations/clubs affiliated to the Cycling Federation.
The issues prevailing within the Cycling Federation and the problems prevailing within the sport of cycling were discussed by the Minister and emphasised that he would intervene at the ministerial level to resolve those issues.
The Minister also explained that a final agreement should be reached on the issues among the members of the Cycling Federation, and then the Cycling officials should be appointed from the Cycling Federation election.
The Minister also said that the current crisis cannot be allowed to promote the sport, that the past period has been spent resolving the crises in the federations and associations.
Meanwhile Sports Minister also discussed with Sri Lanka Motor Sports Association officials. The affiliated clubs of the National sports body and invited motor drivers also graced this discussion.
