The Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura yesterday (8) ordered the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) to immediately investigate the misplacement of items valued at Rs.162 million from the Presidential Secretariat’s Media Unit and report the findings to the Court.
The Magistrate further instructed that if warrants are required for the investigation, they should be sought through a motion. The investigation was initiated following an anonymous letter sent by a group of officials from the Presidential Secretariat to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, which was subsequently forwarded to the Inspector General of Police. This was revealed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in a report submitted to the Court.
According to the Police, a statement has already been recorded from Sisira Kumara, an accountant attached to the procurement division, and statements will be obtained from others who handled the misplaced items.
Police also informed Court that the assessed value of the missing items might be subject to change following further investigations.After considering the details presented, Magistrate Lankapura ordered an immediate inquiry and requested the findings to be reported to Court without delay.
