Airport and Aviation Services Officials have allowed 187 luxury buses plying from Colombo to Katunayake to enter the airport premises from yesterday.
Head of Airport Management Aruna Rajapaksa told Daily News that luxury buses plying from Katunayake to Colombo were allowed to enter outer airport premises after a lapse of five years.
He said that the buses were barred from entering the airport premises following the Easter Sunday attacks and subsequent Covid-19 pandemic.
Katunayake Luxury Private Bus Association President Indika Gunasekara hailing the decision said that tourists, local air passengers and other accompanying them were inconvenienced due to lack of this service.
“The destination of these buses was Katunayake and Averiwatte town and tourists arriving in the airport by bus, as well as local air passengers and others accompanying them, had to travel more than a kilometer, with their luggage and other belongings.The President said that 71 luxury private buses are registered with the association, of which only 24 buses operate daily, providing services between Katunayake and Colombo all day long.
