Sri Lanka Police have confiscated Rs. 283.3 million in cash linked to drug trafficking, the largest sum seized in connection with drug-related activities in the country, Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya said.
The money was discovered concealed at a house in a rural area and was reportedly earned through nationwide drug peddling operations conducted from within a prison, Weerasooriya said during a media briefing. According to police, the money allegedly belongs to a suspect currently in prison, who has been orchestrating drug operations from inside the prison.
Two vehicles were also seized during the operation. The Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court was informed of the confiscation, he said. (NewsWire)
