Army to clean nationwide paddy storage facilities

The Sri Lanka Army has commenced a nationwide cleaning and renovation programme for paddy storage facilities in preparation for the upcoming Maha season harvest. The initiative, running from 18 January 2025 to 27 January 2025, aims to ready 209 Paddy Marketing Board-owned storage facilities that have remained unused for an extended period.

The programme is being carried out under the guidance of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo, following directives from the Secretary of Defence. Cleaning operations began on 18 January 2025 at multiple locations, with Security Force Headquarters across the country coordinating the effort.

This operation is part of a government plan to store paddy purchased during the Maha season harvest, ensuring the facilities meet necessary standards.
