National People’s Power (NPP) Kurunegala District MP Dharmapriya Dissanayake stated that all members of parliament would soon be provided with new vehicles.
“We expect all MPs to receive a new vehicle. So far, MPs have not been given any vehicles. A minister or MP needs a vehicle to perform their duties—we cannot deny that,” he said while speaking to reporters during an inspection tour of the North Western Province Mechanical and Equipment Authority in Kurunegala.
He added, “An agreement has been reached to provide vehicles to MPs. While the specific model has not been decided, they will certainly be new and are expected to arrive within the next couple of months.”
Commenting on the current state of the Mechanical and Equipment Authority, Dissanayake said, “We have received reports that, during former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s tenure, heads of institutions instructed damaged vehicles to be parked at this location.”
He also noted, “There is a lack of support from government institutions for this facility. Many vehicles are being repaired elsewhere. We plan to ensure all government vehicles are repaired here in the future.” (NewsWire)
