A number of military, Police and Civil Defence personnel have been arrested in connection with recent crimes and shootings, Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala said in Parliament today.
An Army Major, six military officers, a Police officer, and a Civil Defense officer are among those apprehended, the Minister said.
He also revealed the arrest of 15 organized criminals and 15 others suspected of supporting these activities.
“When reviewing crimes committed since September 23, we observed that certain military personnel were involved in these operations while still in service,” Wijepala said.
He detailed the recovery of multiple weapons since the current government took office, including 7 T56 rifles, 10 pistols, 14 revolvers, 461 shotguns, 58 Bore 12 rifles,13 Gal Katas rifles. (Islandnews)
