Attorney Supun Wijerathna officially assumed duties today as the new chairman of the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) and director-general of youth affairs in Sri Lanka.
Before his appointment, Wijerathna served as a board member of the NYSC. He holds a law degree from the Open University of Sri Lanka and has been actively involved in youth leadership. He previously served as chairman of the Moratuwa Youth Society Regional Conference, vice chairman of the Colombo District Youth Society Conference, and a member of the Fourth Youth Parliament, where he led the Colombo District team.
Wijerathna is the first person to rise from the youth movement and Youth Parliament to head the NYSC. Addressing council officials after assuming duties, he pledged to transform the institution into a leading organization serving the country’s youth.
Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage and Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Eranga Gunasekara attended the event.
