President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that his government intends to reduce cash usage nationwide, stating that digitization will be key to achieving this.
“We expect to minimise the use of cash in our country. To achieve this, digitisation will play a vital role,” the President said.
The President made these comments during the launch of the government’s new digital initiatives including the GovPay digital payment platform.
He described these digital tools as a key equalizer in ensuring access to services for all citizens.
“We have created a great distance by offering centralized services in Colombo. For instance for someone to obtain funds from the President’s Fund, a person from Narahenpita can reach the Presidential Secretariat easily, while a person from Giradurukotte will find it difficult. I believe this is a great approach to bridge the gap,” he said.
The President said that his party’s political campaign has always envisioned equality stressing that it is important to reduce the gap between the village and the city. (Islandnews)
