The Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Sri Lanka hosted “Cat Walk 2025” today (Feb 10) at the Galle Face Hotel to commemorate the International Day of the Arabian Leopard.
The event was attended by senior government officials, Heads of Diplomatic Missions in Colombo, media representatives, and Embassy staff.
The International Day of the Arabian Leopard was officially adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on June 12, 2023, through a resolution proposed by Saudi Arabia and co-sponsored by more than 30 countries.
Observed annually on February 10, the day aims to raise awareness about the critically endangered Arabian leopard and emphasize the importance of wildlife conservation and biodiversity protection.
As part of the event, participants took part in a symbolic walk along Galle Face Green, drawing light to global efforts to preserve the Arabian leopard and recognizing the conservation initiatives led by Saudi Arabia and other countries where the species is found. (Islandnews)
