The government has decided to establish Internal Affairs Units in all government institutions to provide effective public service.
A circular in this regard has been issued by the President’s Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
The primary objective of establishing this unit is to prevent corruption within state institutions, foster a culture of integrity, ensure transparency and accountability, promote ethical governance and assist in enforcing the law in cooperation with the Bribery Commission.
The circular states the establishment of an internal affairs unit is required as a special unit in all government institutions.
As an initial step, it has been advised that these units be set up in all Cabinet ministries, the Provincial Chief Secretary’s offices, and the District Secretary’s offices.
It is reported that the Secretary to the President has issued written instructions to the Secretary of Ministries, Provincial Chief Secretaries, and District Secretaries regarding the establishment of these Internal Affairs Units. (Islandnews)
