Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala today briefed the Parliament on the items found during an inspection of suspended Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon’s house in Hokanadara yesterday.
Addressing the Parliament today, Minister Wijepala said Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officials had inspected the house as part of investigations into Tennakoon, who has been evading arrest.
Minister Wijepala said the CID officials had found 795 foreign liquor bottles and 214 wine bottles.
He further said that a pistol, believed to belong to the suspended IGP, and two brand-new iPhones, had also been found at the residence.
Minister Ananda Wijepala said that it is expected that essential information will be uncovered through investigations into the two mobile phones.
The Minister of Public Security further revealed that the CID officials had reported to the Matara Magistrate’s Court today to hand over the seized items.
During this time, suspended IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon had also appeared before the Matara Magistrate’s Court to surrender, he added.

The Matara Magistrate’s Court had recently issued an open warrant for the immediate arrest of Tennakoon based on a request made by the CID after the former was found to be evading arrest.
On Monday, the Court of Appeal dismissed the writ petition filed by Deshabandu Tennakoon’s lawyers seeking to cancel the arrest order issued by the Matara Magistrate’s Court. (Islandnews)
