Police have reportedly identified suspects in connection with the brutal triple murder that took place in the Alegoda West area of the Ambalantota police division on Sunday night.
According to preliminary investigations, a group of six individuals arrived at the home of one of the victims around 7:30 p.m. and launched a violent attack on him and two of his friends. The victims were reportedly hacked to death.
One man died at the scene, while the other two were taken to Ambalantota Hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries. Police confirmed that all three sustained severe cut wounds.
The victims were identified as:
– Prabath Indika Hettiarachchi, 39
– Rasika Priyadarshana Hewakumanayaka, 45
– Madawa Udayanga Mallikarachchi, 34
All three were residents of Alegoda and Mamadala.
Investigators believe the killings may be linked to an ongoing dispute between two rival groups involved in the illegal liquor trade. However, authorities have not yet confirmed the exact motive.
Following instructions from the Senior Superintendent of Police in Tangalle, multiple teams, including officers from the Ambalantota police station, have been deployed to arrest the suspects.
