Appropriation Bill for 2025 Presented in Parliament


The Appropriation Bill for the 2025 financial year was presented to Parliament today (08) by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya. The bill outlines the allocation of government expenditure for the upcoming year.

The second reading, including the Budget Speech, is scheduled for February 17, followed by a 7-day debate from February 18 to 25. The vote on the second reading will take place on February 25 at 6.00 p.m.

The Committee Stage Debate will be held over 19 days, including 4 Saturdays, starting from February 27 and ending on March 21. The final vote on the third reading of the Appropriation Bill is set for March 21 at 6.00 p.m.

Budget debates will run daily from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m., with 9.30 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. allocated for oral answers to questions. On all days except for February 25 and March 21, 6.00 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. will be reserved for motions during adjournment time.

The Appropriation Bill sets the stage for extensive discussions on the government’s financial priorities for 2025.
