Australia reveals training plans for Sri Lanka tour

Australia’s Test cricket team is set to commence preparations for their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka with a training camp in Dubai.

According to Cricket.co.uk, the squad will spend approximately a week in the UAE to acclimate to conditions similar to those expected in Galle, where both Tests are scheduled.

The two-Test series in Sri Lanka, beginning on January 29, marks Australia’s return to the island nation following their 2022 tour. Both matches will be held at the Galle International Stadium, a venue renowned for its spin-friendly pitches.

Captain Pat Cummins is anticipated to miss the series due to the impending birth of his second child. In his absence, vice-captain Steve Smith is expected to lead the team. Smith, who recently neared the 10,000 Test run milestone, expressed his intention to continue playing beyond the current season.

The Australian squad will be announced later this week, with several players expected to parti League (BBL) matches before departing for the Dubai camp. Notably, players like Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and Alex Carey are set to bolster their respective BBL teams during this period.

The training camp in Dubai aims to provide the Australian team with an opportunity to adapt to subcontinental conditions, focusing on strategies to counter the spin-friendly pitches they will encounter in Galle. This preparation is crucial as Australia seeks to maintain momentum following their recent series victory over India. (NewsWire)
