The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to raise the minimum wage for private sector employee with the monthly wage increasing from Rs. 17,500 to Rs. 27,000 and the daily wage from Rs. 700 to Rs. 1,080, effective April 1, 2025.
The proposal was submitted by the Minister of Labour and aligns with the 2025 budget proposals.
The Cabinet has also approved a further increase next year, raising the monthly minimum wage to Rs. 30,000 and the daily wage to Rs. 1,200, starting January 1, 2026.
According to the Ministry of Labour, the necessary legislative amendments will be submitted to Parliament in May. (Islandnews)
