Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister, Dr. Chandana Abeyratne said it has been proposed to hold the 77th National Independence Day celebrations in a dignified manner, showcasing the proud history of the nation, at Independence Square in Colombo on February 4.
The Minister stated this while participating in the first organising committee meeting of the 77th National Independence Day celebrations held at the Ministry yesterday.
He further stated that an opportunity will be given to the public to watch this year’s National Independence Day celebrations.
Some 1,600 guests are scheduled to participate in this year’s Independence Day celebrations.
The Government had decided to hold this year’s 77th National Independence Day celebrations with grandeur and keeping costs down, reflecting the pride of the country.
Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government Ministry Secretary S. Aloka Bandara, Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal (Retd.) Sampath Thuyacontha, senior officers of the Tri-Forces and Police and senior officers of the Ministry were present.
