The Criminal Investigations Department’s (CID) probe into the disappearance of Rs 5 million from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka in 2023, is continuing, newly appointed CID Director SSP Imesha Muthumala said.
According to the Island newspaper, SSP Imesha Muthumala yesterday said that the probe was close to uncovering the truth behind the missing cash.
She revealed that an internal probe had been launched by the Central Bank and a complaint was also filed with the Fort Police claiming that Rs.5 million was found missing in one of its vaults during currency operations on April 11, 2023.
SSP Imesha Muthumala said, that at the time, the Central Bank took necessary measures to thoroughly investigate the incident and strengthen its internal controls, processes, etc.
She added that the Central Bank has also assured that it would continue assisting the Police in its ongoing investigations. (Islandnews)
