‘Clean Sri Lanka’ : Govt clarifies reports on street vendors

Minister of Mass Media Nalinda Jayatissa today refuted recent media reports claiming that street vendors would not be allowed to do business under the government’s ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ national programme.

Addressing a special media briefing today, Minister Jayatissa clarified that the national programme was not one intended to initiate legal action and that a Bill has not been presented to the Parliament as yet in this regard.

Minister Jayatissa also revealed that instructions have not been given to apprehend or initiate legal action against certain persons under the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ project.

The ceremonial launch of the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ national programme took place at the Presidential Secretariat under the aegis of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on 01 January 2025.

‘Clean Sri Lanka’ is a programme launched by the National Peoples’ Power (NPP) government focussing on areas such as social behaviour, environmental cleanliness and people’s ethical behaviour. (Islandnews)
