Gerald Coetzee, the South African pacer, has been ruled out of the second Test against Sri Lanka as well as Pakistan’s all-format tour of South Africa (from December 10 to January 7) due to a groin injury sustained in the first Test.
The 24-year old right-arm quickly felt discomfort while bowling on the fourth day of the first Test against Sri Lanka. He underwent scans and the report revealed a right groin muscle strain, stated a CSA media release.

The recovery period needed for Coetzee, according to the CSA release, is four to six weeks, which means he could also miss the start of SA20, which begins on January 9. Coetzee is part of the Joburg Super Kings squad and their opening match is against MI Cape Town on January 11.

Meanwhile, South Africa have added pacer Kwena Maphaka to the squad for the second Test against Sri Lanka in Gqeberha, which begins on December 5. South Africa leads the two-match series 1-0.
