Commander of US Indo-Pacific Command arrives in Sri Lanka


The Commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), Admiral Samuel J. Paparo, has arrived in Sri Lanka on a three-day official visit from 19-21 March.

According to the US Embassy in Sri Lanka, Admiral Paparo will engage with senior Sri Lankan government officials and military leaders during his visit.

The talks will focus on reaffirming the enduring U.S.-Sri Lankan security partnership and sharing the U.S. vision for regional stability and security in the Indo-Pacific. 

The US Embassy further said Commander Paparo’s visit underscores the United States’ ongoing commitment to enhancing security cooperation with Sri Lanka and addressing shared challenges in the Indo-Pacific.

Upon his arrival in Sri Lanka, Admiral Paparo was welcomed by US Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung.

“Pleased to welcome @INDOPACOM Commander Admiral Samuel Paparo to reaffirm our bilateral defense partnership with Sri Lanka and share our vision of stability and security across the Indo-Pacific,” Ambassador Chung said in a statement on ‘X’.

Ambassador Chung further said the Commander’s visit underscores the United States’ commitment to diplomatic and defense investments for continued peace and stability in the region. (Islandnews)
