A Police Sub-Inspector has been arrested on charges of stealing items worth Rs. 650 from a supermarket in the Kiribathkumbura area in Peradeniya.
It is reported that the Police officer arrested yesterday was attached to the Peradeniya Police Station.Â
The suspect who had been purchasing various items at the supermarket was found to have stolen a tea packet and a small shampoo bottle, pocketing them, which had been caught on the CCTV cameras installed at the supermarket.
Security officials at the supermarket had inspected the Police officer, after which he had been handed over to the Police along with the stolen items.Â
According to the Police, the suspect is a Police Officer expected to retire in another two years. (Islandnews)
