Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasuriya has issued an order to Police officers of all ranks and civilian staff of the Police yesterday (30) prohibiting them from offering hampers and other gifts to senior officers on festive occasions such as the New Year.
In the order, the Acting IGP said that it has become a habit for some Police officers and civilian staff of the Police to offer gifts to senior officers on special occasions. Therefore, under no circumstances should any officer accept or give such gifts.
He said that if any officer wants to wish any other senior officer on such a special occasion, they can do so through a phone call or a WhatsApp message, instead of meeting the person. The order, which is also applicable to the civil staff members of the Sri Lanka Police, states that necessary action will be taken against the officers who act contrary to these instructions.
